FRONT COVER TO ALBUM

Final front cover to our album 'One More Year' by FIJ

This is my final front cover for my album cover. As you can see that in comparison to my last edited cover I have added in a sense of noise and carelessness through the splattered reds. I feel as this sense of carelessness works well with the genre and feeling I am trying to grasp throughout the whole of my music video. As of this being very successful.

CONSTRUCTION- MAGAZINE COVER- FIRST MOCK UP

This is the mock up of my magazine cover for 'One More Year' by FIJ. The cover shows the foundation of how our magazine is going to be laid out and what it is going to include. Although it looks as if it is almost complete there is a lot to add and complete to perfect it.

CONSTRUCTION- BACK OF ALBUM COVER

Getting the layout of the back cover is essential when wanting to make the digipack a success. We began this by getting an idea of the rough layout of other band's back covers. From this it gave us a greater understanding into what the back cover should include.
The first thing that became clear was the list of songs that were included on the album, then after this the artwork that works in correlation with the front cover. This research allowed to plan and see what conventions I need to add to my back cover to make it fit real media products.

RESEARCH- MAGAZINE ADVERTS

The magazine adverts shown above gives us all the different codes and conventions of magazine adverts used in actual magazines in real life. As of this it gives us a huge insight into how our advert should look.
The first thing that struck me was the fact that in the majority of magazine adverts I researched the band members were made the main focus. As of this becoming the essential thing I would include in my advert. The adverts shown above reflect the same style of both effects and editing as the album cover, which makes the campaign and band more recognizable. After this the next big thing was the text involved in the editing process. The biggest title being the name of the band e.g. Mumford and Sons and the smaller titles being the small details. For instance the release date and reviews.

This piece of in depth research allowed me to build up my knowledge of magazine adverts, and as of this I hope this pays of when constructing my magazine advert.

CONSTRUCTION- TOUCH UPS ON CAR SCENE

As this scene of the car is symbolic in showing connotations to time passing and the idea of school days ending, it was essential that we perfected this scene and made it the best we could. The photograph on the left displays the car on a field, but with a lot of open space which makes the shot less effective. As of this I played with the scale of the shot so that it was zoomed in. from this getting rid of the excess space in the shot.

The next thing was the colours. The shot is approximately 5 seconds of the car driving up to the camera. The picture on the left shows this being done with nothing edited on top of it. As of this making it visually boring. I decided to change this and changed the colour of the shot in time with the beat. This formed and made the shot to be much more visually attractive in contrast to the last unedited shot.

CONSRUCTION- LONG CROSS DISSOLVES

The adding in of these long cross dissolves carries a variety of different effects that furthers the videos quality and narrative. The dissolves are connotations of time passing and how the end of our final year is soon approaching. It transitions two very different scenes smoothly and effectively, in an almost artistic manor, due to the huge mixture of colours. These transitions I believe were vital in the editing phase of our music video 'One More Year'.

CONSTRUCTION- BARTHES SEMIOTIC FRAMEWORK

In this sequence, were creating visual codes that symbolize our central characters rejection of school work and its burdens. For Roland Barthes, visual codes are signs with both denotative meaning and connotative meaning. Here, when protagonist of Fij knocks over the pile of books it stands for the his rejection of the whole process.

CONSTRUCTION- MAKING THE 'FIJ' STAND OUT

Completed album cover
Half way through changing the text colour
After looking at our album cover in more detail we realized that the 'FIJ' didn't stand out as well as we liked and hoped. We wanted to bring make it more noticeable and by this we decided as a group to change the colour of the title. As of this instead we took the paint tool on photo shop, lowered the opacity and began to paint in between the gaps of the text. We decided on red simply because it worked well with the red of the shoes.

We researched other album covers, and this working of two colours between both album title and digipack design worked extremely well. As of this we decided as a group we should incorporate it into our own work. As of this making the title and artwork flow into one and other, while at the same time making the album cover stand more effective.

CONSTRUCTION- EDITING SKILLS

By playing with the rotation, pivot and scale tools on Adobe premiere pro we were able to achieve this clear and strong visual shot. We decided that the kitchen counter gave the raw shot a rather amateur and unprofessional look. Therefore by using these tools we straighten the shot, and enhanced the purple lighting through RGB curves to create a more luminous and attractive glow which is clean cut and gives it a more professional edge.
